I’ve had many people ask me why I post my picks in the form of wagers. The answer is quite simple:
Some selections represent better opportunities than others. If I think that a horse has a decent chance to win a given race and is likely to go off at a fair price, I’ll probably post a $10 win wager on that horse. However, if I think that a horse has an excellent chance to win or may be a significant overlay, I’ll post a wager of $20 or more on that horse.
For the purposes of this site, I restrict myself to primarily win and exacta wagers. I will on occasion post a trifecta, or even a place or show bet, but those instances are seldom. My style is to pick out one or two horses that I believe to represent good wagering opportunities, and to focus my play in that direction. Straightforward win and exacta wagers allow me to concisely express these opinions and make record-keeping uncomplicated and easy to follow.
The wagers I post are mythical. That is, they are merely a means of expressing an opinion. I do not recommend that you play each race exactly as I’ve suggested. Rather, I intend for my picks and race analysis to stimulate your thought process, offering an alternative angle from which to approach a given race.
