Race 2: Maiden Claiming $40,000 at 6 1/2 furlongs for NY-breds
4 – Indiana Stones
The class droppers interest me most in here, and I’ll take the one that is likely to be the largest price, Indiana Stones (#4). Indiana Stones was involved in a very hot pace that totally fell apart in his debut while facing a better field. He should offer value.
$15 Win 4 (Payout: $57.00)
$4 Exacta Box 4,11 (Payout: $92.00)
Race 5: Optional Claiming $62,500/N2X at six furlongs on the turf
8 – Shore Runner
I struggled with this race, but kept coming back to Shore Runner (#8). This horse took a step forward when he got on turf last year. Now, Shore Runner returns to turf after showing improved recent form on dirt, indicating that he may just be on top of his game right now. Cabo Cat is the class of this field and Mr. Masterpiece is likely to move up off the Jacobson claim, but I worry about a possible slow pace.
$15 Win 8 (Payout: $63.00)
$4 Exacta Key Box 8 with 1,2,6,9 (Payout: $70.40)
Race 8: Optional Claiming $80,000/N3X at 1 1/16 miles on the turf
1 – Blacktype
My feeling is that Blacktype (#1) is a cut above this field in terms of quality and all he needs is for Irad to work out the right trip. Blacktype was shuffled back on the turn last time and had no place to run for much of the stretch drive in his most recent start. Iron Power will be the controlling speed again, but that was the case last time and he only beat the trouble Blacktype by 1 3/4 lengths.
$25 Win 1 (Payout: $82.50)
Race 9: Maiden Special Weight at seven furlongs on the turf for NY-bred fillies and mares
12 – Psychiatry
11 – Ragazza Piu’ Bella
I’m going with Prize Taker’s little sister, Psychiatry (#12). She was a little green in that debut run, but finished nicely and now gets a positive rider switch to Jose Lezcano. A price around 5/1 or so would be very fair.
At a bigger price, I’m also interested in first time turfer Ragazza Piu’ Bella (#11). This filly was away awkwardly in her debut, and wasn’t asked for run until well into the stretch, but she actually finished up decently. There’s some turf pedigree here as her dam is a half-sister to Oedipus O’Neal and Irish Jade, both turf winners by Ragazza Piu’ Bella’s sire, Freud.
$15 Win 12
$10 Win 11
$2 Exacta Box 1,11,12
