Race 5: Claiming $40,000N2L at 1 1/16 miles on the turf
9 – Sambrook
In race where I don’t really love any of those with proven turf form, I’m taking a shot with first time turfer Sambrook (#9). Sambrook is out of a dam who saw all of her success come on the turf, and is a full-sister Bapu, who isn’t very good, but is a turf horse. Watching back Sambrook’s debut, she appears to be a pretty solid mare, and seems to have the action of a horse who should take to turf. It also doesn’t hurt to have a little speed in a race where the vast majority of the runners are closing types.

$2 Exacta Key Box 9 with 4,5
Race 6: Maiden Special Weight at six furlongs on the turf
6 – Take Cover
Take Cover (#6) showed brief speed in his debut before stopping very abruptly. He returns with a solid worktab and gets now gets Lasix. Take Cover also has excellent pedigree for this surface switch, by solid turf influence War Front out of a dam who has produced two turf sprint winners. I’ll use him primarily with Salsa Dog, who should be more tractable without the blinkers, and Sleeping Giant.
$15 Win 6
$5 Exacta Key Box 6 with 2,8
Race 7: Optional Claiming $80,000/N1X at 1 1/16 miles for three year-olds
2 – All Hands
The Truth Or Else gets some needed class relief, but I’m going to take a stand against him with All Hands (#2). There isn’t much pace signed on and All Hands should be able to control this race on the front end. The ill-advised rating tactics that were employed last time did not work out and I have to think he’ll be used from the start today. Good Pick Nick is improving, but he got a favorable pace scenario last time and may not have that luxury today. White Bay is a little interesting for the sole fact that his dam is a strong source of stamina, but he really needs to step it up and run faster.
$20 Win 2

$2 Trifecta 2 with 1,4,6 with 1,4,5,6
Race 8: Optional Claiming $100,000/C at one mile on the turf
2 – Plainview
I know that Unbridled Ocean did not get a great trip in the Fort Marcy last time, but I’m still not sold on his chances today. I just have trouble finding races in Unbridled Ocean’s PPs that make him formidable in here. I also think he may prefer turf courses with just a little give in them and I don’t think he’ll find that today. Instead, I’m going with Plainview (#2), who should be loose on the lead. Storming Inti has a little speed, but his new rider isn’t particularly aggressive and I doubt they try to engage Plainview early. Plainview set a fast pace last time going a distance that is a little short for him, but he showed a lot of grit through the stretch. Likely favorite Reload got absolutely perfect trips in his two turf races last year and it’s not as if he’s meeting a field of slouches for his return.
