Race 5: Starter Allowance $50,000 at seven furlongs
8 – Street Gent
5 – Howl
This race is very competitive, with viable options coming from a multitude of directions. I suspect that Possessed and Imposing Figure will vie for favoritism, and while both can win, I see more intriguing alternatives at better prices.
Street Gent (#8) had been a major disappointment for Leah Gyarmati and was basically given away for $35,000 last time. However, now he lands in a realistic spot for the new connections, and stays around one-turn, which is probably what he wants. With little pace signed on I expect him to be well-placed stalking outside. The encouraging recent workouts suggest this horse might be sitting on a good effort.
I also want to use Howl (#5) on the turnback. This horse tends to make a bit of a middle move before flattening out in his two turn races, and his only sprint effort came off a long layoff. His last race was actually okay and I think he’s coming into this in decent form.

Race 7: Optional Claiming $62,500/N2X at 6 1/2 furlongs for fillies and mares
2 – Risque Reality
I suppose you first have to decide what to do with Wavell Avenue (#5). I’ve never been her biggest fan, and especially in retrospect, the fields she was easily beating earlier this winter look pretty weak. I won’t be shocked if she wins, but I doubt she’ll offer value. I think Previous (#3) is a better horse, but she also may want to go farther than 6 1/2 furlongs. For that reason, I’ve landed on Risque Reality (#2). This filly did very well when moving from Gulfstream to Aqueduct last spring and her prep for this came against a pretty salty field. Now she gets back to her favorite track and distance for a trainer that is often under-respected.
