Race 4: Allowance at one mile for NY-bred fillies and mares
1 – Miss Da Point
This race is basically a re-run of the 7th race on February 11, with one addition. I’m glad that Angel Cruz has been named back aboard Miss Da Point (#1). He made a serious tactical error in that race, but has become much more aggressive and pace-conscious since then and is likely to make amends here. This time, Miss Da Point must be sent to the front from the rail. If she’s ridden correctly, I believe she will win.
However, I wouldn’t complete count out Royal Suspicion (#6). I tweeted about Jim Ryerson’s supertrainer-like recent stats at NYRA last night. Over the past 90 days, Jim Ryerson has put together a record of 27-8-8-5 (78% ITM), good for an ROI of $8.30 at NYRA tracks. Royal Suspicion was a different horse with blinkers last time, and that new-found tactical speed gives her an advantage here once again. Star Grazing (#4) is the third major player, but she would need to be ready to put in a top effort off the layoff.

6 – Slan Abhaile
Slan Abhaile (#6) ran deceptively well last time when setting a very strong pace before understandably collapsing in the final three-sixteenths of a mile. This horse has been a little inconsistent throughout his career, but his best sprints make him a major player here. I believe that his last race signals that he’s in good form and he may play out as the main speed in a race lacking any other confirmed frontrunners.
I’ll be using him with Sky Commander (#7), who ran a couple of strong races when switched back to dirt at Gulfstream and is confidently bumped up in class this time.
