Race 6: Maiden Special Weight at one mile and 70 yards
8 – S. S. Minnow
@horseplaya71 for pointing out that S. S. Minnow (#8) is running at Parx. While I don’t love the fact that he’s entered in another route, he is still likely to be an overlay off consecutive terrible trips. In his debut he was off slowly and squeezed back at the start before putting in a mile late run. Then last time he might have shown early speed had his jockey not been intent on rating him, thus placing him in the worst possible spot entering the first turn. He had to be steadied sharply as horses crossed over in front of him, and he lost interest thereafter. I don’t know how good S. S. Minnow actually is, but if he’s allowed to break cleanly and use his early speed today, I’m fairly certain he’ll give a much better account of himself.
At least I know he’s better than morning line favorite Super Service, who was terrible when facing much weaker foes at Aqueduct last time. Beyond those two, there are some other things going on in this race: You have Life Said (#1), by Successful Appeal out of a Quiet American mare, who somehow has never raced on dirt, and even the lightly raced Peace Militant (#5) ran pretty well last time and has a right to be okay. Both are worth using with my long shot stab.
