Race 1: Maiden Special Weight at one mile for three year-olds
4 – S. S. Minnow (scratched)
$15 Win 4
$4 Exacta Key Box 4 with 1,6
Race 3: The Evening Attire at 1 1/16 miles
2 – Mr. Palmer
The feeling here is that his last race was purely a prep for this tougher spot, and Mott does well with horses racing second off long layoffs. MR. PALMER (#2) has shown that he’s fast enough to win a race like this in the past and he clearly runs well over the inner track. Village Warrior figures to control the pace and Mr. Palmer should be able to sit a ground-saving stalking trip in behind him. At should should be a decent price somewhere in the 8/1 to 10/1 range, I think he’s worth a shot.
Micromanage (#1A) is the horse to beat, but he got such a great setup last time and I wonder if he’ll be able to duplicate that performance today with a less favorable pace scenario.
$15 Win 2
$4 Exacta Key Box 2 with 1,3,6
Race 8: Optional Claiming $40,000/N2X at six furlongs for NY-breds
3 – Salisbury Knight
I’m not totally convinced that SALISBURY KNIGHT (#3) will be at his best going six furlongs, but this horse loves a wet track, which he’ll get today, and ran much better than it appears last time. That day, he was wide every step of the way over a surface that was favoring horses that rode the rail. Jacobson claimed him for $25,000, originally entered him back in a softer spot a few weeks ago, but now confidently moves him up into this tough optional claiming race. I think these are all good signs for a horse that had been in the best form of his career for Jimmy Jerkens.
