Just a small batch of new Horses to Watch to add to the list this week:
August 8, Race 8 – Guyana Princess (#3)
This mare was off to a tangled start and spotted the field more than five lengths. Even after that she was very sluggish early having just been turned back from a long series of route races. Despite being left with a huge deficit to make up, she put in a furious stretch run to beat more than half the field. I know the pace was fast, but Guyana Princess gave up so much ground at the start that it’s hard to say she was a direct beneficiary of any race dynamics. Rather I feel that she really responded to the turnback and could be dangerous next time at another sprint distance.
August 9, Race 5 – Sweet Reason (#2)
There’s not much you can say about this one—just watch the replay. Sweet Reason was off slowly and lagged well back, but put in one of the most impressive late runs of the meeting to go from being 18 lengths behind on the far turn to first by more than 6 lengths at the wire. I’m not sure yet if this will be prove to be a prospective wagering opportunity, but this looks like a filly that shouldn’t be taken lightly in a race like the Spinaway.
August 11, Race 1 – Cash Your Ticket (#10)
This horse has been on the list before and removed after not having any luck with him. However, he deserves to be reinstated after this ridiculous trip.
August 11, Race 3 – Evasive Cat (#1)
This filly ran much better than it will look on paper since she battled for the lead early through torrid early fractions and was the only speed left standing at the end in a race that completely collapsed.
