I unfortunately have to be out of the house working during the first half of the card, so I’m posting my picks early. Today most of my stronger opinions come in the stakes races later on so I’m not too worried about missing anything.
Aqueduct, Race 2: Maiden Special Weight at one mile
Suspicious (#8) was very well-bet in his debut in what looked like a tough maiden race at Gulfstream. After working his way through horses around the turn he finished up evenly and it just feels like the sort of race he can build on. If Shug McGaughey can get this full-brother to millionaire Gone Astray to improve second time out he’ll be pretty scary.
$10 Win 8
Aqueduct, Race 8: The Gazelle Stakes (G2) at 1 1/8 miles for three year-old fillies
I don’t usually post my Pick-4 plays on this site just because it can get overly complicated and confusing and they often don’t best represent concise opinions. Today, however, the all stakes Pick-4 presents an opportunity to link up the three strong opinions I have in all but one of today’s stakes races (well, all but two now that Saturday’s Charm was scratched out of the Carter).
I’ll try to kick things off with Princess of Sylmar (#6), who I firmly believe is better than her moderate Beyer spew figures suggest.
$1 Pick-4 6 with 1,2,4,5,6,8 with 4,7 with 2,8
$20 Win 6
Aqueduct, Race 11: The Wood Memorial (G1) at 1 1/8 miles for three year-olds
I realize Verrazano is the horse to beat, but I was too impressed by “Horse to Watch” Normandy Invasion’s (#2) Remsen last year to let him go at a decent price in this spot. I didn’t love his return, but he’s been working well since and I expect a big effort today.
$10 Win 2
